CASEing Jennifer McGuire - See Through Die Cut Cards

I, like many others, am enamored with the creative creations of Jennifer McGuire.  She comes up with the so many unique ideas and I always like to try and recreate those using my cutting machines instead of metal dies.  This is why we bought those machines - right?  This particular CASE is recreating a see through die cut card using my Cricut Explore Air 2.

Jennifer McGuire See Through Card CASE

After seeing Jennifer McGuire's video about making see through cards, I wanted to adapt her technique for my cutting machines.  I immediately thought of Lori Whitlock's stacked cards and how I could use those svgs to create a see through card.  I opened the image in Cricut Design Space and cut out all three layers in white using my Cricut Explore Air 2.  I cut squares from the same white card stock for the layers.  The sentiment from Dare 2 B Artzy is stamped in Hero Arts Ombre Ink.  I added 2 small metal embellishments for a final touch.

Hugs Are My Thing

Evidently Hugs is my sentiment right now because all the cards I've been making say Hugs.  I guess there isn't anything wrong with that.  I might actually have some get well cards this week so there will be some diversification.

Hugs Are My Thing Card Recipe

I've been playing with the text feature in the Cricut Design Space and Silhouette Studio softwares.  This card is a result of the negative cut I did on my machines.  I placed the red cardstock on a black mat and added some Doodlebug enamel dots in sparkly black.  Done.  You can't beat a simple card.

Luke 4:  1 - 2  Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

Hi and Hugs

Why did we buy these expensive electronic cutting machines?  I bought mine so I wouldn't have to buy those expensive dies.  Now I don't mean it totally replaced metal dies.  I still like those dies with embossing or stitches or piercing.  So today I used my cutting machine to cut out sentiments for my cards.

Hi and Hugs Card Recipe

Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink sponged on watercolor paper and then spritzed with water has become my go to for card making recently.  Today, I used Abandoned Coral and Peacock Feathers and instead of spritzing with water, I spritzed with spray starch.  I'm not sure there was much of a difference.  I always decorate a whole sheet of watercolor cardstock and then cut it down so I can make multiple cards.  This time I sponged 2 pieces of watercolor cardstock with these colors, but only sprayed one with spray starch.  Using my Cricut Explore Air 2, I cut out the sentiments out of the second piece of sponged cardstock.  Coordinating cardstock was used to create the card base and mat.  Sequins were added for interest.  I stacked the sentiments on top of each other for dimension and even offset them sometimes.

Mini Kitty T

I made my niece a curly kitty t-shirt for Christmas and she loved it.  The image is from the Silhouette Design Store.  I purchased the image and the SVG image so that I could pull it into my Cricut Design Space software and cut it out on my Maker.

My daughter decided that my Granddaughter Kylie should have one.  So I re-sized the image for a smaller shirt in Cricut Design Space and cut it out in pink glitter for the pink shirt I had purchased for Kylie.  I actually purchased a 3 pack of Hanes pink shirts so I still have 2 shirts to decorate.

I decided that this smaller shirt was a perfect canvas for my Cricut Easy Press.

It worked perfectly.  I purchased some 'mouse pads' for my heat press to use when I have seams, etc.  I use the largest pad to place on the surface of my table.  I used another one of the pressing pads inside the small shirt which I probably didn't even need.  You can see the larger pad under the shirt in the picture.  Weeding was made somewhat easier with my Cricut Bright Pad that I got for Christmas.  I found that I had to bend the glitter HTV in order to see where some of the cuts were.  I need to perfect my weeding with my Bright Pad.

Holiday Series - T-shirt #9 - Oh deer

I just can't make myself enough t-shirts.  I have no idea why.  Well, maybe I have a bit of an obsessive personality.  Maybe.  I usually need 2 of everything, but in this case, 2 Christmas shirts are just not enough.  I don't know what I am going to wear in January.  I better get busy on that.  In the meantime, here is the latest shirt I've made.  It is adorable, but I can't take credit for it.  I purchased it in at Etsy shop - SoCuteAppliques and this image lives up to the name of the shop.

Shirt #9

Oh deer T-shirt Recipe

So I brought this image into my Cricut Design Space software - easy peasy.  There were several colors in this image as you can see.  I made the bow, nose and the heart the same color red.  The inside of the bow I wanted in flat vinyl so I made it a slightly different red.  The inner ear was a brown, but I knew I wanted it pink so I changed the color.  I will have to do a youtube video on how to do that.  I initially cut out the 'oh' in black, but after deciding on a navy blue t-shirt, I cut it out in white.  This shirt is adorable!  I will definitely be purchasing more from this seller.

Holiday Series - T-shirt #4

Card break is over and it's time for holiday shirt #4.  Shirt #4 and shirt #5 are going to be similar but different.  They are both deer with lights on their antlers.  The deer shape is different though.  Both of these deer were purchased from Etsy shop JenCraftDesigns.

Here is shirt #4:

Snowflake Deer 1 T-shirt Recipe

I found this deer on Etsy, but it had ornaments in it's antlers instead of Christmas lights.  I noticed there was a custom order button for the seller and requested the deer with Christmas lights.  She created this lovely creature.  I pulled it into Cricut Design Space and cut it out with my Cricut Maker.

The Twelve Shirts of Christmas - Shirt 1

Welcome to my holiday shirt series.  For some reason I am now obsessed with making Christmas shirts.  Well, maybe shirts in general, but Christmas shirts are definitely my current focus.  I need to make some cards, but I spent this afternoon ruining some vinyl and pressing some shirts.  I have been sharing my holiday shirts on Facebook, but I will go into a little more detail on where I got the image and how I made the shirts on the blog.

Shirt #7:

You Are Never Too Old To Believe in Magic Shirt Recipe

This is a design that I have been eyeing in Etsy for quite some time.  I filled my cart with Etsy images and the total was about $45.00.  Now for the number of images I had in my cart, that price is very reasonable.  However, my funds were pretty tight and I wasn't able to spend $45.00 on t-shirt images.  So, I went into Silhouette Studio V4 and proceeded to come up with my own versions of the sentiments I had loaded into my cart.  This image, however, was different.  No matter how I tried, I couldn't recreate it.  You can't mess with perfection.  So I purchased it from Etsy here

My Silhouette Cameo has been giving me some trouble.  It might be because I am using the BETA version of the new version of Silhouette Studio and I haven't updated lately.  I chose to cut this one out with my Cricut Maker.  Here is the video showing how I cleaned up the image so that I could cut it out the way I wanted using Cricut Design Space and my Cricut Maker.

I love my Cricut Maker.  Check out my video for some tips on bringing in svg's from outside vendors.

This might be my favorite Christmas shirt.  This purple heather t-shirt is such a pretty color.  It was originally going to be my Let It Snow shirt which you will see tomorrow, but that changed.  I will share why in tomorrow's post.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today.  Tune in tomorrow for shirt #2 in my Christmas T-shirt series.  Have a great day and enjoy the journey and some chocolate.

Happy Birthday Joan.  :-)
