Yay, It's Your Birthday

I saw a card on the MFT Instagram feed that used a black ink, the radiating stencil and rainbow colors for the sentiment.  The blog is located here.

So this is what I created using this image as my inspiration.

Yay It's Your Birthday Card Recipe

I started out with watercolor card stock and Tim Holtz Oxide Ink in Black Soot.  I used a sponge dauber to apply the Oxide Ink to the watercolor paper.  I put 2 layers of the black on the paper.  The I put the Radiating Stencil from MFT over the black and put another layer of Oxide Black Soot Ink.  The rays are subtle.  I took white acrylic paint and flicked it on the Black Soot Ink.  I decided it needed a little sparkle so I also spritzed with water containing Perfect Pearls.  On another piece of watercolor card stock, I made a rainbow with Tim Holtz Oxide Inks.  Once I put the colors down I spritzed them with water.  I cut out the MFT Yay sentiment and cut 2 more Yays out of white card stock.  I glued them together to create a dimensional sentiment.  The It's Your Birthday sentiment is from the MFT stamp set that coordinates with the Yay dies.

I'm Not Weird

I was surfing through the Silhouette Design Store and found this fun sentiment.  I've been trying to mix it up in the color department.  I actually made a mistake on this one, but it ended up turning out okay.

I'm Not Weird I am Limited Edition

As has been my habit lately, I bought the image from the Silhouette Design Store; pulled it into Silhouette Studio V4 and created an offset.  I didn't use any glitter on this one - can you believe it.  I did use one of my new favorite vinyls - electric red from Siser.  I actually intended for weird and edition to be in electric red, but it just didn't work out that way.  Another exciting thing about this shirt - I used my new Silhouette Cameo 3 to cut out the vinyl.

Heck Yes It's Your Birthday

This is it!  This is the last card using Lawn Fawn's Really Rainbow 6 x 6 paper pad.  For a while anyway.  This one is kind of cool because it has a little masculine feel to it.  I always have issues making masculine cards, but this one just seemed to happen.

Heck Yes It's Your Birthday

Again - a sketch.  I just love sketches and with this paper they just come alive.  The sentiment is from My Favorite Things.  Enamel dots are from Doodlebug.

WOYWW 460 - Such a Mess

It's Wednesday and that means it is time to take a picture of my desk and share it on Julia's Stamping Ground blog.  What's even more fun is desk hopping from home to home virtually of course.  This week something happened that I didn't think would happen ever again (since Oliver).  My desk is a mess!

WOYWW 460

Well, I didn't think it would happen, but my desk is a mess.  Don't get me wrong - I will pay.  Oliver is perched on top of a shirt I just pressed.  Actually 2 - one is a 3t so you can't see it.

Flying Monkeys

A lot of my cards and shirts are requests from customers.  And a lot of my customers are my friends from work.  I have a particularly high maintenance group of friends from work.  LOL . And I am not afraid they will see this post because I've made it no secret from them that they are high maintenance.

This shirt was requested by my friends from work for another friend at work.  It was a short notice request, but you know I work better under pressure anyway so it wasn't a big deal.  There were several iterations of the design, but the shirt ended up being adorable.  And my friend who received the shirt as a gift gave me a great big hug for the stress of working through the design with my high maintenance customers aka my friends from work.  ;-)

Flying Monkeys T-shirt Recipe

Like I said there were iterations of this design.  The skirt was my favorite and started with this design in the Silhouette Design Store.  This is what I was given to start with in coming up with a design:

This is the design without the skirt:

The group ended up liking the design with the skirt once the flying monkey quote what centered in the skirt.  And of course the red shoes had to be glitter.

CASEing Jennifer McGuire - Liquid Watercolor Backgrounds

As I have said many times I just love Jennifer McGuire.  She has the best ideas.  It just amazes me that she can continually come up with fun ideas.  I guess if your background is mechanical engineer for NASA, you're gonna be impressive.  Hero Arts recently came out with water colors and Jennifer shared what she did with those paints - Liquid Watercolor Backgrounds.  Here is what I made.

Wish It's Your Birthday Card Recipe

I watched Jennifer McGuire's video and it just so happens that my LCS got the Hero Arts Liquid Watercolor in stock just after I saw the video.  You know I had to have them.  I did try the same type of technique using the Distress Ink Reinkers and did not get the same results.  Thus the reason I needed these new watercolors.  I cut a piece of Strathmore Watercolor cardstock in half.  I put droplets on the cardstock and then added water with a spritzer.  I used Moss and Deep Ocean.   I matted with a shimmery cardstock that blended with these colors.  I used my newly acquired 'wish' die from My Favorite Things along with the sentiment 'It's Your Birthday' from a My Favorite Things stamp set.  The ink is ombre ink from Hero Arts.

Really Rainbow Thank You

We are almost through the Lawn Fawn Really Rainbow paper cards.  Almost.  And I reserve the right to make more cards using that paper cause I love it!  Here is a Thank You card made with what is my current favorite paper using a fun sketch.

Thank You Card Recipe

This is a pretty classic sketch.  I just can't get over how all the cards I made using this paper turned out the way I wanted.  Part of the success was matting each layer of pattern card stock with a coordinated solid card stock.  Thank You from My Favorite Things was stamped on white paper and I cut out the flag.  Yeah, I know - not perfect, but what hand made card is?  Enamel dots complete the card.

I Speak Fluent Sarcasm

What is unfortunate about that blog post title is that it is true.  Ask anyone who knows me.  I just can't help myself.  I think it is genetic - I got it from my Dad.  Not my Mom - she's just too nice to be sarcastic.  I on the other hand, am not.  So I decided to use one of my Wal-mart t-shirts to share that information with anyone who sees me.  No one will be able to say I didn't warn them.  And with glitter.

I Speak Fluent Sarcasm T-shirt Recipe

As is the norm for me I found this saying in the Silhouette Design Store and decided I must have it.  There are several 'sarcasm' sayings that you will eventually see on one of my shirts.  Sarcasm Loading, If Only Sarcasm Burned Calories and I Will See Your Sarcasm and Raise You Some Sass.  As always I use Siser HTV in Easyweed Stretch, Electric and Glitter.

I discovered something recently - my wardrobe comes from Wal-mart and Jiffy shirts.  I recently had to go shopping for some new pants.  In the last year I've lost 30 pounds and I have - had - no black pants.  I was volunteering for a charitable event last Friday and needed to wear something besides jeans and I don't like wearing skirts/dresses.  I just don't have the legs.  But I digress.  So I went shopping and not for craft supplies.  I love shopping for craft supplies.  I do NOT like shopping for clothes.  I don't mind grabbing a pair of jeans from Wal-mart or including an order for a shirt in my size in our jiffy shirt orders.  But having to try on clothes in a dressing room?  Ugh.  Pants off, pants on, pants off and pants back on.  Walk, walk, walk.  Pants off, pants on, pants off, pants on.  The only good thing was the size I am wearing.  I am happy to report I found 2 pairs of black pants, a pair of navy pants and a pair of jeans.   So I said all that to say - when you see my t-shirt blog posts - you are experiencing clothes shopping with me.

CASEing Jennifer McGuire - See Through Die Cut Cards

I, like many others, am enamored with the creative creations of Jennifer McGuire.  She comes up with the so many unique ideas and I always like to try and recreate those using my cutting machines instead of metal dies.  This is why we bought those machines - right?  This particular CASE is recreating a see through die cut card using my Cricut Explore Air 2.

Jennifer McGuire See Through Card CASE

After seeing Jennifer McGuire's video about making see through cards, I wanted to adapt her technique for my cutting machines.  I immediately thought of Lori Whitlock's stacked cards and how I could use those svgs to create a see through card.  I opened the image in Cricut Design Space and cut out all three layers in white using my Cricut Explore Air 2.  I cut squares from the same white card stock for the layers.  The sentiment from Dare 2 B Artzy is stamped in Hero Arts Ombre Ink.  I added 2 small metal embellishments for a final touch.

Border Time Challenge at Creative Knockouts

It is Thursday and that means it it time for a new Creative Knockouts Challenge.  This week's challenge is Border Time and the wonderful sponsor is All Dressed Up.  Enter the challenge for a chance to win 2 images from our great sponsor.

I started with the image Jam Jars to create this Easter card.

Easter Blessings Card Recipe

I printed the Jam Jars image and colored it with Copic Markers.  I also did some highlights in white gel pen.  The Easter Blessings sentiment is from MSE.  The layers that created my borders are from Elizabeth Craft Designs.  I cut out each layer in a color that coordinated with the coloring in my image.  Finally, I added some glitter using a clear glitter pen.

WOYWW 459 - A Big Ole Mess

It is Wednesday and that means it is time to take a picture of my desk and share it on Julia's Stamping Ground for WOYWW.  What is even more fun than that is stalking other crafter's desks to see what they have been up to.

Here is my messy messy desk this week.  No cleaning it up.

My craft room is a mess and I haven't cleaned it up yet.  Oliver is of course wreaking havoc on all the stuff lying around.  And my craft room has also been invaded by a small person.  She likes to take things our of cabinets, drawers and off carts and stack them on the tables.

Nothing Goes Better with Cake Than More Cake

Lawn Fawn has come out a new paper release called Really Rainbow and as you know I love this paper.  I'm getting towards the end of the cards I've made which probably excites some of you.  But I don't care because I am in love with this paper.  I'm getting more so you will see it for as long as I can find the paper.

Nothing Goes Better with Cake Card Recipe

I actually came up with this design on my own.  After cutting up paper for the other card designs, I had these strips left over.  I stacked the strips on top of each other.  I matted these with a green card stock.  I cut the white card stock and stamped it with a sentiment from My Favorite Things.  The sentiment was matted with red card stock.  Matte enamel dots in red top off the card.  This card is special because I gave it to Veletta for her birthday.  And since it was for Veletta - there was a red mat on the inside of the card and also a stamped sentiment.

I Get Distracted by Shiny Things!

I was shopping at Wal-mart for the normal stuff....bananas, grapes, butter, Swiffer and cat litter.  I always walk through the women's clothing to see if they have any t-shirts on sale and that's when I found some shirts I hadn't paid attention to before.  This shirt is really soft and it's cut for a woman but is a relaxed fit.  I am loving this color and this shirt.  I bought 4 different colors and here is what I did with the first one.

I Get Distracted By Shiny Things T-shirt Recipe

I started with this great new shirt.  It's soft and such a fun purple.  I purchased the saying from the Silhouette Design Store.  I opened it in the Silhouette Studio software and started working on the colors.  As always I used the offsite tool to create an offsite around the saying.  I usually use .075 around my words.  It gives the saying just a little mat to make the words pop.  Most of the time I will cut the mat out in the same color.  Then I make the words different colors depending on which word I want to emphasize.  In this case Shiny and the stars are in glitter.

I'm So Lucky

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day, but I had a Send a Smile 4 Kids Design Team card to share so I am sharing my 'St. Patrick's Day' card today.  It's not officially a St. Patrick's Day card, but it is green and has a 4 leaf clover so it's close.

I'm So Lucky Card Recipe

I actually designed this card myself.  I must say that I was inspired by - you know who I am going to say - Jennifer McGuire.  I often times like to take Jennifer McGuire tutorials and adapt them to my cutting machines.  She did a video on See-through Die Cut Cards.  One of the cards was hearts that were stacked and they were cut using steel dies.  I created my own stacked clover using a Silhouette nested clover image and my Silhouette Cameo.  The sentiment comes from My Favorite Things.

Cards 4 Boys - Send a Smile 4 Kids

It is the third Saturday of the month and that means it is time for a new challenge at the Send a Smile 4 Kids Challenge blog.  The theme for this challenge is Anything Goes or Cards 4 Boys.  This challenge no longer has sponsors so you will be participating for pride not prize.

Send a Smile 4 Kids charity is dedicated to collecting and distributing handmade cards to children who are inpatient at Children's Hospitals.  Please send us your handmade kids' cards for holidays, birthdays, and everyday cheer.  Help us put a smile on our kids' faces.

Here is the card I made for the Design Team for this challenge:

Card 4 a Boy Card Recipe

I had this background in my stash.  I made it with leftover Oxide Distress Inks on my craft mat.  Instead of wiping them up with a wipe or paper towel, I dabbed the ink on regular card stock.  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder for the birthday embossing.  The balloons were in an unmarked plastic bag so I don't know who made it.  I die cut the image with white card stock and then with a left over watercolor background that was also in my stash.  The happy birthday sentiment is from Paper Smooches and the die cut tag is from My Favorite Things.  I matted the card front on a coordinating color of solid card stock.  Since it is for a guy, no glitter.

Consider entering the challenge at Send a Smile 4 Kids and sending in your cards to bring a smile to a child in the hospital.

Crazy Doesn't Run In My Family

It Gallops.  LOL . I found this saying in the Silhouette Design Store and knew I must have it.  I also had some animal print pattern HTV that I thought would be perfect for this project.

Crazy Doesn't Run T-shirt Recipe

I brought the image into the Silhouette Studio V4 software and added an offset.  I really like the way the background vinyl allows the foreground vinyl to pop.  Although this animal print isn't quite the same as the horse to which the saying refers - I thought it was perfect.  I found some brown vinyl in my stash and thought that would make the perfect background vinyl . The foreground vinyl that isn't animal print is Siser Black Stretch.  The brown is Siser as well.  I don't know if the animal print is Siser or not.  I pressed the vinyl on a Gildan Ladies cut shirt in brown.
